Dr. Kimothy Jarrett has been a member of the Georgia Middle School Association since its inception in the 1980s having served on the board during the early years; twice as its President while a classroom teacher. Prior to accepting her current position as the principal of Crabapple Middle School in 1998, Dr. Jarrett served as an assistant principal in Cobb and Fulton County.

In 2003, Crabapple Middle School became one of the first two Georgia middle schools to earn the status as a Georgia Lighthouse School to Watch. That same year the school was featured on the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education Bus Trip Across Georgia. Dr. Jarrett was named Georgia PTA Outstanding Principal for District 10 for her efforts with school improvement in 2003.

The school was awarded a Lifetime Membership to Georgia Middle School Association for Volunteer Service in 2006. Also in 2006, Crabapple Middle School became the first Georgia Lighthouse School to Watch to earn re-designation as a Lighthouse School to Watch and was also recognized as the first school in the nation to earn that recognition. During the summer of 2009, Crabapple Middle once again became the first school in the nation to be awarded a second re-designation as a Lighthouse School to Watch.
